Man Shot, Teen Taken Into Custody at Antelope Island State Park

Antelope Island State Park, UT – A man is in stable condition after being shot on the causeway of Antelope Island State Park this afternoon. A juvenile suspect was apprehended at the scene and taken into custody.

At 1:36 p.m., a road rage incident was called into dispatch. Deputies responded at 1:42 p.m., six minutes later, and discovered a male in his 50s with a gunshot wound. Responding deputies provided life-saving care before AirMed arrived and transported the victim to a nearby hospital.

The suspect, a 16-year-old male, fled on foot. He was able to effectively conceal himself, hiding under brush and evading responding deputies. A helicopter with the Utah Department of Public Safety was able to locate the suspect. He was taken into custody and is being interviewed by investigators as the case remains under investigation.

Traffic on the causeway was impacted for two hours as deputies contained the crime scene. Motorists were able to leave the park around 4 p.m., and the park remained closed to visitors throughout the evening.

We appreciate the support of AirMed, the Utah Department of Public Safety, Syracuse Fire, and the many law enforcement agencies who lent support during this incident.
