DCSO’s First Rapid Sequence Intubation a Success!

DCSO’s first Rapid Sequence Intubation under the new pilot program was performed yesterday on a patient involved in an auto accident. The patient was unconscious and could not control her own airway. Without a breathing tube, her outcome was uncertain. But Deputies Jason Sorensen and Shane Archibald, both paramedics, gave her sedatives and paralyzing medications to allow her to accept the breathing tube. It was not an easy intubation, as the airway was full of secretions. But through their skill and professionalism, the breathing tube was successfully placed and allowed paramedics to breath for her and protect her airway. The patient is alive, in part due to their efforts. Congratulations deputies. Well done!
